Biography
Matan moves freely between art history and images that have lost the contexts from which they emerged. A river may carry within it the memory of another painting, a relief of a male torso may echo iconic sculptures of the past, a form that appears almost scientific may suddenly become cosmological.
Itay Matan (b. 1995, Jerusalem) lives and works in Tel Aviv. He holds an MFA (2025) and a BFA (2020) from the Department of Art at Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design. Matan has presented solo exhibitions, including Chronicles (2026) and Artifices (2026) at Braverman Gallery, Tel Aviv, and has participated in numerous group exhibitions at venues such as Zumu Gallery (Upper Galilee), Koresh 14 Gallery (Jerusalem), Nassima Landau Gallery (Tel Aviv), Bezalel Gallery (Jerusalem), Edmond de Rothschild Center (Tel Aviv), Binyamin Gallery (Tel Aviv), and the Fresh Paint Art Fair. He was awarded the Chaim Schiff Prize for Figurative-Realistic Painting from Bezalel Academy in 2019 and 2020.
Matan's works are part of the Israel Museum collection, along with other private collections in Israel and abroad.
