Ilit Azoulay

Ilit Azoulay (b. 1972 in Tel Aviv–Jaffa) is an internationally acclaimed artist of Moroccan origin who lives and works in Berlin. She is best known for her pioneering photographic practice, reassembling images from meticulously researched material. Through a discerning fusion of photomontage, sound, video, and architectural interventions, she explores how visual information is culturally processed, revealing often-overlooked facets and opening up alternative perspectives on established fields of knowledge.

Azoulay’s works are held in numerous museum and private collections worldwide, including the Museum of Modern Art, New York; the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York; the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), Los Angeles; the Hammer Museum, Los Angeles; the Art Institute of Chicago; the Centre Pompidou, Paris; the National Gallery of Australia, Canberra; the Julia Stoschek Foundation, Berlin; the Israel Museum, Jerusalem; and the Tel Aviv Museum of Art.

Her work has been exhibited extensively internationally. Recent solo exhibitions include No Single View at Museum Villa Stuck, Munich (2026), a continuation of her project Stopover (2024); Mere Things at the Jewish Museum, New York (2024); Queendom. Navigating Future Codes at Museum der Moderne Salzburg, Austria (2024); her project Room #8 at CaixaForum Madrid (2023); and Queendom at the Israeli Pavilion at the 59th Venice Biennale (2022). Previous solo exhibitions include presentations at CCA: Center for Contemporary Art, Tel Aviv (2019); the Israel Museum, Jerusalem (2017); and KW Institute for Contemporary Art, Berlin (2014).

Azoulay has also participated in group exhibitions at major international institutions, including Daimler Contemporary, Berlin (2020); the Bauhaus Museum, Dessau (2019); the Pinakothek der Moderne, Munich (2016); the Museum of Modern Art, New York (2015); the Musée d’Art moderne de la Ville de Paris (2015); and the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art, Melbourne (2015).
